No where else in East Harlem is the area's status as emerging neighborhood more clearly defined than it is on Lexington and 110th Street. An abandoned building, with boarded up windows, sits around the block from one of the largest, and for lack of a better term most luxurious, luxury buildings around. The juxtaposition always startles me.
I hear you. Whenever I walk by to grab a coffee I can either be depressed by looking at one end of the street or feel the opposite by looking at another.
ReplyDeleteI've sent Trader Joes an email requesting they look into moving into the abandoned grocery store.
It was an very unpleasant surprise when that grocery store closed! I liked their produce and their selection of ethnic products.
ReplyDeleteIf Trader Joe or another upscale market opened there, I think they would do well, with all the folks moving into the new buildings.
I'd love to see a Trader Joes or something opening up in that area. I've heard rumors of a Whole Foods somewhere in the neighborhood, but just rumors for now.
